Ramon Williams

Ramon Williams (1931 – ) Christian publisher and photographer
The Australasian Religious Press Association takes great pleasure in honouring Ramon Williams with a Special Citation for exceptionally meritorious service to the Christian community, and specifically to Christian media, for 50 years.

Ramon Williams: ‘Glad to help’ That’s not Ramon Williams’ tagline. Officially it is “Telling others what others are doing for the Lord”. But if ever you thank Mr Williams for delivering that “telling” he says, “Glad to help.” You couldn’t write from Australia about reporting religion without mention of Ramon Williams. Ready, willing, modest and forever genial, he is a man with a “long career, serving the Lord and supporting others”.

Last year he was honoured for his ministry as a conduit for Christian news and photographs — in Australasia and around the world — with a special citation from the Australasian Religious Press Association. The citation recognised Mr Williams’ exceptionally meritorious service to the Christian community, and specifically to Christian media, for 50 years.

If you read any published Australian Christian ‘news’ article over the past 50 years, it has almost certainly been distributed by one of the greatest unsung heroes of the Australian Christian movement, the “AAP-equivalent” of Christian wire news, Ramon Williams, now aged 81.

For nigh-on 50 years Ramon Williams has exercised a unique and important ministry in the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, with his catch cry, “Telling others what others are doing for the Lord.” In recent days Ramon Williams was taken ill and hospitalised for a short period of time with high sugar levels. Home now and under the care of his extensive family we pray his continuing recovery.

Now 86, Ramon Williams has been supplying news articles and photos to the Christian media from “down under” for more than 50 years, and he is considered by many, including myself, as one of the great heroes of the Australian Christian media.

This self-effacing former missionary has, for more than half-a-century, been running the equivalent of a Christian AP (Associated Press) news wire, and we at ANS have been running many of his fine stories and photos.

Thank you Stephen. Yes, I remember you (and your photo). You were certainly efficient and committed in all you did. I sincerely appreciate your humbling comment.

  4. Ramon Williams says:

Thank you Martin. I have always appreciated your professionalism in media work, from video productions to press releases for Wesley Mission and currently, our church. Glad to help.

  5. Stephen Chavura says:

This is a well-deserved award and recognition for a great servant of the church in Australia. I met Ramon 10 years ago through my associations with the Festival of Light and then the Christian Democratic Party. I soon noticed that nearly every photo I saw in a magazine of the Christian event was by Ramon, and he even did his own fair share of journalism. He even took my photo when I was a CDP candidate in 2007. A great guy and a tireless worker. God bless him.

  6. I have had the privilege of knowing Ramon for 40 + Years. We first met at the Bill Glass Crusade run in Wagga Wagga in 1977. In my various roles in Christian organisations, I have used his services over and over again. Just last week he distributed a release for one of my clients. He still has the most up-to-date list of Christian media outlets in Australia and the world. We also attend the same church.
Thanks for running this story on his ministry.
